15 Minutes with the Aqua Vee

I did a little more than 15 minutes in the pool this morning. I thought I had pressed the timer on my watch, but after what was somewhere between 3 and 5 minutes, I noticed that it was still on zero. I started the chrono and did another 15 minutes.

10 Miles in the Park

Patricia and I did 10 miles in Oyster Creek Park. We arrived at 6:45am and did intervals for the first 5 miles or so. I ran out of energy, so we walked briskly, with spurts of running in between. I really enjoyed having a partner.Time goes so much faster when you have someone to talk to and run with.

Cycling and Swimming

I did manage to get 30 minutes in on the stationary bike. I went up and down through the gears, trying to maintain the same cadence no matter what gear I was in. Later in the day I managed to get in the pool and do 20 minutes with the Aqua Vee.
Tomorrow is a 10 mile run.

30 Minutes Running

I did 3:1's for 30 minutes, after a 2 minute warm-up. I made it to the corner in 11 minutes this time. It seems that my weight loss is making running easier. I had hoped to get some bike time in tonight, but it didn't happen.

15 Minutes with AV

I did 15 minutes in the pool with the Aqua Vee. I had hoped to get some bike time in, but did not manage it.

30 Minutes Running

I'm not sure where my energy came from but after a 2 minute warm-up, I ran for 30 minutes with very few breaks. I made it to the corner that I used to reach in 16 minutes walking, in just 11:30. I guess I'm getting a little faster. The pesky geese were out in force this morning. Luckily I had my trusty water bottle to fend them off.

Swimming and Cycling

This morning I swam for 15 minutes using the Aqua Vee. Tonight I rode the stationary bike for 25 minutes. I'm going to try to cycle at least 3 more times this week.

My Own Half Marathon

I overslept this morning. and didn't get to Oyster Creek Park at 8:00am. There was actually a cool breeze at first, but it didn't last long. I ran for most of the first 4.5 mile loop, then interspersed more walking during the second loop. I was ready to call it quits after 9 miles, but knew that I had to persist and kept going with intermittent running. I was so relieved and exhausted when I finished. I'm sure that missing out of a few trainings this week while traveling didn't help.
Hopefully I'll be back on schedule.
I really need to get some saddle time in for the mini sprint Tri that's coming up in 2 weeks.
Thankfully my long run is down to 10 miles for next weekend.

15 Minutes in the Pool

It felt good to be back in my pool.I used the Aqua Vee with the new shorter cables. It didn't seem to make much difference. I swam for 15 minutes.

10 minutes of Swimming

I have to say that I was spoiled when I stayed at the Hyatt last week. The hotel we're at tonight has an indoor pool, but it's so shallow on one end that there's no way to swim laps to it. Instead, I swam in squares for 10 minutes. It felt good to be back in the water again after almost a week. I can't wait to get back into my routine. We head home in the morning.

One Hour of Hiking plus 1.5 miles

Today we went to Lake Minnewonka and hiked along the paths. We spent an hour in the woods, following the lake around its twists and turns as it changed color from deep blue to turquoise. It was fairly steep with lots of rocks and roots, but the views were amazing. We turned around when we got to the signs that warned travelers that they were entering bear country.

Me on our hike at Lake Minnewonka

We decided to walk to dinner. It turned out that the restaurant was 3/4 of a mile from our hotel. So, roundtrip was 1.5 miles.

More Strolling

Today we went to Lake Louise area and rode the Gondola up to the top of a mountainside. It started raining just as we finished the open-air lift ride back down. The temperatures dropped into the low 50's. We then drove to Lake Louise and after to Lake Moraine. The lakes were incredible, the most beautiful turquoise and emerald colors. And the Fairmont Hotel by Lake Louise, a jewel by itself. Again, I probably put in 2 miles, strolling. We also spotted 2 brown bears today.

Lots of Casual Walking

Stan arrived in Calgary last night. We changed our plans and decided to head straight to Banff instead of spending 2 days in Calgary. The scenery in the National forest is incredible and the mountains unreal. It was an absolutely beautiful day,so we walked the streets of downtown Banff and visited the Cascade Gardens.I probably got about 2 miles in, although they were more of a stroll than anything.

A Change of Plans

My orignal plan for my 12 mile training was to take the pedestrian path to the airport and get a rental car. I did a web search to see where I needed to go in order to pick the path up. I typed the trail name in and up popped an article about how runners, especially single women had been avoiding certain parts of the trail (the part I needed to use) because of muggings. Now this was last year, but I wasn't going to take a chance. Instead I did my twelve miles on the treadmill at the hotel. I did break it into 3 segments, 6 miles, 3 miles and 3 miles with 5 minute breaks in between. But I did it. And the rental car - there's a Budget 3 blocks from the hotel!

4 Miles on the Cycle and 15 Minutes Swimming

I got up early and cycled for 4 miles and then swam for 15 minutes. I thought I would have the pool to myself, but after about 3 or 4 minutes a woman came in and made big waves. At first I was upset, but then I accepted that the waves were similar to a Tri setting and just went with it. My plan for tomorrow is to stow my luggage with the bell desk and walk to the airport. They have bike and pedestrian paths all over the city, with two that go from downtown to the airport. They measure 12+ miles each, the amount I'm scheduled to do this weekend.

30 Minutes on the Treadmill and 10 minutes Swimming

Tonight I got my third training in on the treadmill. I did hills for 30 minutes. When I finished I swam laps for 10 minutes. The facilities in this hotel are getting me spoiled!

Swimming, Cycling and a Little Walk

I had a fairly big chunk of time midday, so I cycled on the stationary bike for 4 miles and then swam for 30 minutes. I also got to walk a bit around downtown Calgary, although since I used the train, too, I probably only got 1 miles in. It will be much more difficult to get any exercise in tomorrow.

Walk, Swim and Cycle

I was able to get a 30 minute walk/run in this morning before I left for Calgary. I got to the airport way too early and then my flight was 30 minutes late. The hotel I'm at has a great fitness center plus a lap pool. I grabbed a bite to eat, swam laps for 20 minutes and then did the stationary bike for 4 miles. This is the first time in a while that I've been on the bike and I felt it. My next tri is less than a month away. I need to get back in gear!

It wasn't until I was finished my workout that I realized I could have used one of the headsets available for guests and listened to the Olympics as well as watching. Oh well, tomorrow is another day.

30 Minutes Running and 15 Minutes in the Pool

I started out with a brisk walk and then ran intervals for a 30 minute work-out. I swam with the AV for 15 minutes.

15 Minutes in the Pool

I had great intentions - I was going to try to get in the rest of my mileage today, but my lower back was hurting. Instead I did a lot of stretches designed for the lower back and then swam with the Aqua-Vee for 15 minutes.

6 Miles mostly Running

I started out with the Orange group this morning, doing 3:1's for the first 45 minutes. I started to feel a little pulling in my left IT band, so I dropped down to 2:1's for the next 20 minutes. Then I met up with Marta, who had a side stitch, so the two of us walked in the last mile. I finished the 6 miles in 1:23, which is my usual 10K time, so I was pleased. I guess I'll continue to do 3:1's as long as I can. I have to decide my strategy for tomorrow -attempt 10 miles or not?

20 minutes Swimming

This morning I swam with the Aqua-Vee for 20 minutes, the equivalent of 12 laps. I'm going to need to get a shorter cord so that it won't hit my leg. I didn't realize that there was an replacement for shorter pools. I'm scheduled for 7 miles this weekend, but since a didn't do 10 last week, I think I'll flip the weeks.

30 Minutes Walking plus 10 minutes in the Pool

I decided to walk this morning. I keep flip-flopping about runnning. I almost think I can walk as fast as I am running. Walking also isn't as hard on my lower back. On the other foot - if I don't increase my speed, I'll never make the 6:00hour cut-off for Houston. And Sunmart will be a problem, as I promised Carla I would run with her. I still have time to decide. I'll see how my time is on Labor Day at the local 5K. When I got home I used the Aqua Vee again for 10 minutes. It's so convenient.

Aqua-Vee

It was hard to believe that hurricane hit today. Sugar Land really wasn't effected except for a little rain.We set up the Aqua-Vee and I used it today. It only took about 5 minutes to get used to it. It's great! I swam in place for 20 minutes. I liked it.

Swimming and Running

I got a late start this morning. I was the only one at the Aquatic center. I did 12 laps. Later in the day, as news coverage increased about the impending hurricane, Eduardo, I decided I had better get some mileage in. I went out at 7:30pm and ran 3:00/1:00 intervals for 40 minutes.

Only 6 Miles

I had a really busy day yesterday and missing training. I only managed to squeeze in 6 miles at Oyster Creek Park before my morning apporintment. I was slated to do 10. I'm not sure how or when I'll be able to get the 10 in. I ran most of the time today, but was pretty slow.
